Bisl Intl Fair May 2021 Opening Ceremony Parade

The British International School of Ljubljana recently held their opening ceremony with an international celebration highlighting the many diverse student cultures and communities that inhabit the school.

The Opening Ceremony kickstarted British International School of Ljubljana's International Days with a wonderfully colourful flag parade, celebrating over 40 different nationalities represented at the school.

The school's Primary Student Council designed brilliant passports for everyone to decorate and take around the country stalls on the day of the International Fair, getting stamps at each stall when answering the questions correctly by the PTA's fun Nations Quiz which highlighted some funny answers.

There was also a whole-school flag scavenger hunt which the students enjoyed throughout the week, following clues as they went around the school to find the correct flags displayed all over.

As a community, the British International School of Ljubljana has been very much looking forward to its International Fair, as it was the first big event of the year, and one that allowed safe-socialising where pupils, parents and teachers can celebrate together. Despite the weather, the assembly hall was transformed into a room filled with vibrant culture, with 14 country stalls from Nicaragua all the way to Japan! The stalls had some great activities set up for the students to enjoy, and the food, as always, was delicious.

It was great to be able to celebrate these events together once again, as well as streaming the ceremony live via Zoom for everyone to watch and participate.

Thank you to those parent volunteers who gave up their time to come into school to do a cultural activity with their child's class during the week - we had everything from Belgian comics to stories in Slovene and it was a fantastic experience for our students.

It is a privilege to have such a supportive group of parents here at BISL, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank the PTA and our wonderful parents who have put so much effort into organising this amazing event for our community, thank you.

We look forward to celebrate more successful events together in the near future!

Take a look

The performances were equally phenomenal, with Year 5 and 6 on the African drums, and Year 1 singing and dancing to the school's chosen International Days Song; Wavin' Flag. The Performing Arts team are putting together a video medley of the performances, so keep an eye out for these in BISL's newsletters! A gallery of photos and the recording of the live ceremony is available on the school's Opening Ceremony article here.
