On Wednesday 15 May, His Royal Highness, The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex visited Slovenia

Today in Ljubljana, the British-Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and MEPI - The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award for Young People in Slovenia, kindly invited a group of students from The British School, Ljubljana to attend an exclusive event at the Grand Hotel Union that hosted His Royal Highness, discussing the importance of non-formal education for young people and its relevance to the labour market, in light of future jobs.

Students were delighted to be ambassadors for the school and were extremely excited to be a part of such an invaluable opportunity, playing an integral part in the event by registering, welcoming and ushering guests, as well as assisting in the cloakroom.

Congratulations to all students who helped out at the event – Maria, Isabella, Eren, McKenna, Carissa, Taja, Kasper and in her absence, Ivona. They all looked very smart in their uniforms and did a fantastic job representing our school.

Prince Edward was visiting Slovenia to promote the Duke of Edinburgh Award (MEPI in Slovenia) and the non-formal, real world education that such a programme provides which the school in Ljubljana offers.

Also as part of the Royal visit, another group of BISL students were also invited to perform at a MEPI event in Tivoli Park.

Eight students accompanied Mr. Irving and Ms. Škofic-Damjan represented the school in a most exemplary manner. With workshops being run by various schools and MEPI-related organisations throughout the morning, it was indeed a very interesting and enriching experience.

The highlight, of course, was the arrival of Prince Edward himself. He was entertained by a short performance from the Impro Gledališče, followed by a stunning dance routine performed by the schools secondary students, Camie, Asia, and Wiktoria. Well done!

A ceremonial tree was also planted, and the school has been bestowed with the honour of nurturing its growth within the Park.
