On the 11th May Malcolm Philips, Principal of EIS Moscow East attended the 38th Annual COBIS Conference - Vision 2030- The Future of International Education, in London to accept the Student Achievement Award on behalf of the winning students from the 2 Orbital Education Schools.

Out of 262 COBIS schools and 135,00 students, 209 COBIS students were given this accolade. These students have been presented with a COBIS Student Achievement Award for the following reasons:

  • Outstanding academic achievement
  • Sustained, high level contributions to the wider life of the school
  • Significant contributions to the school’s/community’s charity activities
  • An act of bravery in the school/community

This year 3 students form EIS Moscow East and 3 students from Britannica International School Shanghai were amongst the winners. The students from Britannica in Shanghai also won 3rd place in the science film category too.

The 3 winners from EIS Moscow East were:

Justyna joined our school in September 2017 with no English, and a very shy and quiet personality. In 18 months, she has learnt English to a level where she can now take on leadership roles in the classroom, perform confidently in both singing and acting in our school productions, and access grade level curriculum in all subjects.

As a supportive and enthusiastic member of the school community, Kinda takes every opportunity to take on extra responsibility. Volunteering her time as part of the school council which is helping to give students throughout the school an important voice, representing the school in sports teams, drama and music events, and exemplifying the qualities the school looks for in students at EIS.

Since joining the school Liana has made every effort to become fully involved in all aspects of school life. Academically she is performing at a high level and is expected to secure a very good set of IGCSE results. She has also made a huge contribution to school musically both vocally and on the piano, taking every opportunity to perform both in school and at other school events in Moscow.

The 3 winners from Britannica International School Shanghai were:

Dedicated to his studies, Wei Lin exhibits impressive levels of determination, is very well-organised, conscientious and utterly reliable. Determined and charismatic by nature, this shines through in his work.Wei Lin displays a natural affinity towards both Mathematics and the Sciences. He rapidly absorbs and understands new, often abstract mathematical concepts and I am confident he will submit an Oxbridge application in the next academic year.

Fletcher is the epitome of what International school education should be aiming to achieve for its students. He grasped every opportunity offered to him which has turned him into a very impressive young man. He is a leader in the classroom from an academic standpoint but equally impressive is his extra-curricular work.

Erik is a professional in every sense of the word, and in so many areas of his life. Academically, he has an incredible thirst for knowledge and it is very rare, if yet impossible, to ever see Erik without a smile on his face when in a learning environment.

Malcolm Philips said 'It was an honour to receive this award on behalf of the students whose work and approach have been exemplary to gain this prestigious award.'
