Celebrating local culture and traditions in an international school setting

Britannica International School in Shanghai is preparing to welcome the year of the rooster with two days of celebrations and cultural activities on 25th and 26th January 2017.  Students across the school are busy preparing a range of exciting and dynamic performances and Britannica will be decorated in red to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Activities will begin on Wednesday 25th January with Chinese New Year Assemblies, attended by parents and families. Students will be performing traditional Chinese dances, dragon dances, drums, Kung Fu, singing and giving poetry recitals. The day will also be non-uniform day, during which students are encouraged to dress in red or wear traditional Chinese costumes!

Thursday 26th January is Chinese cultural activities’ day at Britannica. The day will start with a traditional dragon dance performed by KS3 students and a waist-drums performance from a local community group.

The Mandarin Department at Britannica International School has organised these events and will lead the celebrations. By welcoming the year of the rooster, students will gain a greater understanding of Chinese culture, tradition and customs while celebrating this important time of year.

Xin Nian Kuai Le!
